XKit Update Dec 31

I’ve been really busy this last few weeks, work related stuff and whatnot.

I am really sorry for not updating XKit for a long, long time, and I’ll start working on some new extensions and bug fixes as soon as possible.

so… Is there a feature you would like to see in the next update?

XKit Update Dec 13 [2]

I am trying to fix many of the known bugs in XKit.

But in the meanwhile, you can now download Themes extension and get the XMas theme, a basic red/green theme with falling snow, to get into the holiday spirit and whatnot. =3

XKit Update Dec 13

Two bug fixes:

  1. A bug in Quick-Inbox that could make the “return to top” button on the right side of the dashboard to not appear
  2. A bug in Update Manager where updates wouldn’t reach the extension.

Please go to the Under the Hood tab under the X icon on your dashboard, and check that you have “xkit_update_manager” version “1.2 Rev A”. If you don’t, please click on it and then re-click Reinstall the Extension.

Thank you.

XKit Update Dec 8 [2]

The server problems has been fixed.

In order to make it really unlikely to experience such a server failure again, XKit has been updated to support several servers.

If one is down, XKit will automatically try the next one. There are currently 3 servers available. (One of them is still down, and will be until tomorrow.)

I am terribly sorry about this, and I thank you for your patience.

Unfortunately, to get this multi-server feature (and to get XKit working again), you must follow the following instructions. (Please do this even though your XKit installation seems to work correctly.)

  1. Go to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/109272 and download XKit Framework 0.4.2
  2. Go to http://www.tumblr.com/xkit_reset to perform a clean installation of XKit. Some of your settings, such as your blacklisted words will be saved, but you’ll need to re-install the extensions you got from the Extension Gallery. (It is NORMAL to get a “Page not Found” error at that point, but you also should get a prompt box asking you if you want to reset XKit. If you don’t, the extension is not installed properly.)

Again, I am really sorry about this. Hopefully, this will end all the server problems, and I can finally get back to writing extensions and provide bug-fixes to existing extensions.

A new update will be posted in a few hours that will (hopefully) fix the server errors.
Thank you for your patience.

XKit Update Dec 7

ugh. It’s that time of day where I post something bad about XKit servers.

Well, everything was fine. The new server was great, and the new web hosting service was great. Then I happened. Apparently, during an update to XKit Update Manager, I’ve managed to break a code that delayed the update checking service.

So, the XKit started trying to fetch version checker page from the XKit servers every second, bringing the server down. Again. It is one of those “LOL” moments for spectators, and “kill me” moments for me.

I’ve fixed the code, but the server is down right now. Again. I’ve contacted everyone I can, and it should be up as soon as possible.

If you already installed XKit, you should be fine.
If you are trying to install/update XKit now, I plead for your patience.

Thank You.

XKit Update Dec 6

Well, after trying for weeks to get Yahoo to admit that their host was down and get them to help me, unsuccessfully, I’ve moved the files that XKit tried to fetch when you try to update/install it to another server. This should, hopefully, put an end to all this website errors.

If you don’t know what’s going on:

  1. The XKit versions 0.4.0 and up needs to contact my servers, to download the default extensions included with XKit.
  2. After releasing 0.4.0 Preview Release, my website, hosted by Yahoo Small Business, went down, and started acting weirdly, giving a “Error 999” message, causing XKit installations to fail.

So, if you installed XKit and it’s not working (or if it is working but you are seeing weird error messages), please follow the following steps to get it to work again:

  1. Click here to download XKit Framework 0.4.1C
  2. Then click here to perform a clean reset to XKit.

Note that some of your settings, such as your blacklisted words will not be reset, while your installed extensions might get deleted. You can always download them again with one click by going to Get Extensions tab on XKit control panel.

I am incredibly sorry about this, and I thank you for choosing XKit. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask.

XKit Update Dec 5 [2]

Two new ‘mini-extensions’ are available on the Extension Gallery:

Classic Customize Redirector: Don’t like the new Customize page? Enable this to get the old customize page again.

New Lines on Ask Boxes: Enables to 'press enter’ on ask boxes. Useful if you message with people a lot.

Click on the X icon on top of your dashboard, and then Get Extensions to download them.

Also, XPreview has been updates to fix a couple of bugs. If you have Automatic Updates on, you should be updated to XPreview Version 1.0 Rev C by now. =3

Again, thanks for using XKit.

XKit Update Dec 5

Most of the server errors have been fixed. The server is now running faster, and should be less prone to crashes. I’m terribly sorry about this.

If you are still experiencing “Unable to contact XKit servers” error, please try going to www.tumblr.com/xkit_reset, which should start a clean installation. It will open a new tab and start the installation process. Please wait ~30 seconds for installation to start on that tab.

Thank you for your patience, and thank you for using XKit.
