Reminder: Check the Extension Gallery!

I keep seeing posts about XKit not having a particular feature while in reality, it actually does.

Not all features of XKit is installed or enabled by default. If I did that, it would change your dashboard too much, and that would, well, upset some users.

There is a reason why XKit have an Extension Gallery. If you have never checked it before, here is some of the features you are missing:

  1. Post Crushes
  2. Timestamps
  3. Open Links in New Tabs
  4. Themes
  5. Shorten Posts

and much, much more! To open the Extension Gallery and get new features, just click on the X icon on top of your dashboard, then click on Extension Gallery!

Also, some extensions are customizable, which you can customize by clicking on the X icon, then selecting Customize Extensions.

Oops: One-Click Postage 2.8 REV C

There was a small bug in the One-Click Postage 2.8 REV B, which can cause the text “Send!” (and a picture) to appear on the end of the asks you answer.

I’m terribly sorry about that, and it has been fixed now. To update it:

  1. Click on the X icon
  2. Click Manage Extensions > One-Click Postage 2
  3. Click on Re-install / Manually Update this Extension

Again, I’m really sorry about that.

Extension Updates of Feb 14

I’ve made some changes to the following extensions:

  1. Patches and Tweaks (Version 2.3 REV A)
Now ‘delays’ start-up to decrease CPU usage.
  2. Quick-Asks (Version 1.7 REV A)
Tweaked, or re-wrote parts of it to decrease CPU usage.

You should get the new updates in a few hours automatically. If you don’t want to wait, you can back up your data using XCloud, and do a Clean Restore, which will update all the extensions you have. (recommended.)

I’m also making adjustments on One-Click Postage which will further reduce CPU usage, and make scrolling on dashboard a lot faster. I’ll fully test it, and release it tomorrow.

[UPDATE: I’ve released an update to One-Click Postage today.]

Thanks for using XKit!

  1. Click on the X icon on your dashboard
  2. Click on Manage Extensions
  3. Click on One-Click Postage 2
  4. Click on Re-install / Manually Update this extension
  5. Refresh the pages.

Again, sorry about this, and thanks for your patience!
Feel free to send me any messages if the problem continues.

Follower Checker Update

I’ve made some adjustments to Follower Checker:

  • A much faster loading time
  • A message box that pops up when Follower Checker can’t fetch any pages (that’s a Tumblr related problem btw.) warning you that the results might be unreliable.

You should be able to get the new version in a few hours, but if you don’t want to wait:

  1. Click on the X icon
  2. Click on Manage Extensions
  3. Select Follower Checker
  4. Click Re-install / Manually Update This Extension

I am working on making it faster, and update the UI so you can click on the blog names.

Making XKit Faster: Part II

Today I’ve updated 4 extensions so they can load up a lot faster. I think I’ve shaved off more than 6% of the CPU use.

To upgrade all your extensions:

  1. Make a backup with XCloud
  2. Reset XKit by going to http://www.tumblr.com/xkit_reset
or the X icon > Advanced Settings menu
  3. Restore using XCloud

More will come tomorrow. =3

A little warning: XBigot is still kinda slow, so you might want to disable it until I update it tomorrow.

Making XKit Faster: Part I

I know that XKit can be slow sometimes. And it is slower on Chrome.

And one of the most requested features on the XKit Survey was a faster backend. (after small bug fixes, and new features.)

So I’ve been working on making XKit faster. And there are two ‘phases’ I plan on to make this real:

  1. Phase 1: XKit 5.8 (soon!)
I’ve been making adjustments in XKit extensions, the bootstrapper, and the whole back-end. I’ve done some tests, and these adjustments led to a nearly 25% decrease in CPU use. (even though it is making the X icon appear later and whatnot, because of the “postponing” of the extension loader.) I’ll be releasing it as soon as possible.
  2. Phase 2: XKit 6.0 (in a few months)
This requires all the extensions for XKit to be re-written from scratch. (and there are over 27 extensions to be re-written), so it won’t be ready for a few months, but when it’s out there, there will be a lot of performance-wise improvements.

Thanks for using XKit, and I hope those releases will make the experience a lot better for you.
