XKit Update, November 15

Today’s update is only on Tweaks extension’s “Slim Sidebar” function, since a recent Tumblr change broke it.

I apologize for the lack of updates and responses to the asks in the last few days, I had a pretty bad week. I’ll be answering the asks and add new features in a few days. Again, my apologizes for not replying if you’ve sent me an ask, I will as soon as possible. If you need urgent help troubleshooting XKit, please send them again so I can reply to them first. Thank you.

Unreverse, Redux

Yesterday I’ve removed Unreverse since it was causing a lot of problems with people, such as menus not opening and not being able to click some parts of the posts. Since then I’ve received a lot of asks, some saying they were completely okay with the problems, asking it back.

So I’ve rewritten Unreverse: there are some small differences, such as the notes now being on the bottom of the post, not along with the buttons, and it’s now once again available on the extension gallery.

Since I know that Unreverse [might] cause[s] problems, problems I can not fix, it is now unsupported: you can still install it and XKit will not remove it, but I can not provide any help if you have problems.

AccessKit: Final Part (for today)

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I’ve just released AccessKit version 1.1, shaped with the suggestions you’ve made (and my inbox is, of course, still open for more suggestions).

This version is depends on some changes made to XKit backend, so if you are going to update it now, please use XKit Control Panel > Other > Update All.

  • Ability to change the post font (default, sans-serif or OpenDyslexic)
  • Ability to turn off sidebar and notification contrast, since some people said it causes headaches.
  • Increased contrast on post edit/creation windows, and more XKit user interface items, such as XKit Notifications.
  • Increased font size on tags
  • Bug fixes

Thank you so much for your help.

AccessKit: Part II

I need your help with AccessKit: I am no expert at accessibility, and just written AccessKit with things I could think of, saw on the Ease of Access blog, and, well, the things I saw on the Accessibility control panel on my computer.

AccessKit is in no way complete, I know there are some places I’ve forgot to make the font bigger or the increase the contrast, and I’m working on them right now.

I know there are some things I can’t do, such as reading out the text (although most computers support this), but I would like to hear all the suggestions, especially from people who have problems related to vision, and bug reports about the stuff I’ve missed when increasing the contrast, font size, etc.

So if you have any suggestions or bug reports, please let me know.

Thank you!

XKit Spring Cleaning

When you install an extension, it remains on your computer even though it’s been removed from the extension gallery a long time ago, for various reasons. As you know, I hate removing features: that one extension I remove might be the reason you installed XKit, so I can understand if people get mad at the decision.

But I also want people to have a stable XKit they can trust. As I’ve written before, I would rather have 4-5 extensions than 50 extensions that barely work. So after today’s update, XKit will perform a “Spring Cleaning”, removing the extension that no longer work for one reason or another.

The following extensions, if you have them installed, will be removed from your XKit:

  1. XIM
  2. Filter-By-Type
  3. Unreverse

The reason(s) can be found on the notification when you receive it, or this page I’ve created to shed some light on the removals. I’m really, realy sorry about this, and I hope you can understand the decision I’ve had to make. Thank you.

Notifications and News

Whenever I release a new extension, I post it under XKit News section of the control panel so everyone, including people who chose not to follow this blog can be notified (and even if they are following this blog, timezone differences make it impossible for some to see the post).

I’ve received a lot of asks, and saw posts under the XKit tag asking and/or complaining about the notifications these last two days, so if you don’t like the news or updates, here’s how you can turn them off:

For XKit Mail, first “read” the unread messages by clicking on them, then go to XKit Control Panel > Others > News Notifications.

For the update notifications (“XKit updated ___ extensions”), go to XKit Control Panel > Others > Update Notifications.

The instructions are also available on the FAQ page.

Help XKit

I try to keep these posts to about once every two months, so I apologize if you’ve seen a post like this before, but I need your help: if you enjoy using XKit and would like to help me out, here’s a few ways:

  • Spread XKit
You can use the badges or reblog this post to help me spread XKit. More users means more bug reports and more suggestions, which only makes XKit better.

  • Bug Reports
When you hit an error message or a problem, send it to my ask, so I can look what might be going on and provide the fix as soon as possible.

  • Donate
I work on XKit between school and part-time work, so any donation is not only greatly appreciated, it will also help me pay the server bills.

Thank you for your support! =3

Receiving an error while using XKit?

While trying to add a new feature to the backend, I accidentally pushed the wrong update, which broke some of the extensions on the computers that received the update. The update was up for less than 2 minutes, so I don’t think a lot of people received it.

But if you are receiving error messages such as “cannot call method of undefined”, you have two options:

  • You can disable XKit, wait for an hour or two and re-enable it. After that, XKit will try to update itself again, and fix the borked update.
  • Or, especially if you’ve backed up your data using XCloud, reset XKit by going to www.tumblr.com/xkit_reset. This will, however, delete your preferences and settings such as blacklist and blocked posts.

I’m terribly, terribly sorry about this, it is all my fault since I’ve skipped some of the safety measurements I have to prevent something like this from happening. Thank you for your understanding.
