Currently, Tumblr is redirecting the Activity page to your dashboard. As a consequence, Old Notifications and Activity+ extensions are not working.
This is not related to XKit, and there is nothing I can do about it, I apologize.
Starting with version 2.4 Rev A, the “Keep Tags” and “Auto-Tag Queued Posts” functionality of One-Click Postage will be removed. This is because soon a new, separate, and much powerful extension will take their place.
I would love to release it right now, but due to fact it is dependent on some changes on XKit core, I’m waiting for everyone’s XKit to update itself first.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
A bug in 0.1 Rev A caused TagViewer to load tags from wrong posts or load the same tags more than once if you checked more than one post without refreshing the page.
It is fixed now, and you should get the updated version by going to XKit Control Panel -> TagViewer -> Update
I’m incredibly sorry about this, and I hope it didn’t cause any confusion.
Read Posts is a new extension written by bit-pony that dims the posts on your dashboard that you’ve already seen on previous page loads.
You can get it from the XKit Extension Gallery now.
As cliche as it sounds, transparency is the key to being a good person and an extension. Because of this, in addition to the Github issues page, I’ve created a simple to read Known Bugs page which lists XKit and Tumblr bugs.
As you know, some of the problems you might be experiencing such as not being able to send asks from Dashboard is caused by Tumblr bugs, not XKit ones. But there are also bugs I’m trying to fix, such as Audio Downloader sometimes downloading wrong tracks or that “$ is not defined” popup on Firefox.
So if you are experiencing a problem, take a look at the Known Bugs page by following this link or clicking on Known Bugs on top of this blog.
If it is listed under “XKit”, I’m working on it. If it’s listed under “Tumblr”, there is nothing I can do about that. If it’s not listed there, send me an ask and I’ll see what might be causing it. Thank you!
Today’s Updates:
Mute
Blacklist
Tweaks
Notifications+
And, in case you’ve missed it:
You will get the updated versions in a few hours, or you can update them manually from the XKit Control Panel.
Thanks for using XKit! =3
If, when you click on the “Ask” button under user’s avatar menus, you are redirected to their blogs, and that little ask window does not pop up, that’s a Tumblr bug.
They’ve implemented In-Dashboard Asks, but then disabled it for some reason, a couple of days ago. Probably they are ironing out some bugs. It should be back in a few days. Nothing I can do about this, my apologies.
First, a message about Tumblr NSFW Policy:
As far as I know, the new Tumblr policy on NSFW blogs is to not show those posts on tag searches. A lot asked me to do something about it, but there is already an option about this: Go to your Tumblr settings > Dashboard and uncheck “Browse tag pages in Safe Mode”.
Secondly, a note about asks:
I’m terribly sorry about this, while testing a new feature I’m working on, I’ve lost around half of the asks on my inbox. If you have sent me an ask before yesterday and still haven’t heard back from me, please send it again. Again, I am so sorry about this. And I hate to bring this back over and over again, but there is this follower checker asks going on still. So if your message was about that, please read that link. Thank you.
And now, today’s XKit updates:
Blacklist 2.0
Notifications+
Activity+
Unreverse and Old Notifications
I’m not sure if this is affecting other people as well, but right now, whenever I try to visit the Activity page, I get redirected to Dashboard.
Of course, this causes no notifications to appear on your blog page. This appears to be a temporary Tumblr bug, and I think it will be fixed really soon. I can’t do anything about this, I’m sorry.
I’ve just received a mail from Tumblr support, saying that the function Filter By Type depended on is “not supported at this time”, which is kinda open to interpretation. I’m pretty sure it means “removed forever”, though.
Unfortunately, without that function, Filter By Type can not work. Unless it makes a comeback, Filter By Type will be removed from the extension gallery soon, since right now, all it does is show an error window.
You can mail the Tumblr support (at support@tumblr.com) and ask them (politely, of course) to bring the “show pages” (ie: www.tumblr.com/show/audio) back, but not sure if that would make a change.
I’m deeply sorry about this, but it is beyond my control.
Today’s update brings a new extension, Old Notifications, and a lot of bug fixes for other extensions that got broken with the latest Tumblr update.
First of all, for those asking me if / thinking the Activity page is an XKit extension or feature, it is not. And secondly, yes, it did broke a lot of things on XKit, especially replies to notifications.
Also, I’m not sure if I can “move” the notifications “back” to your blog page, but will also see what I can do.
Fixes will be provided as soon as possible, I apologize for this.
Right now, Filter By Type is not working, at all.
The reason for that is, it depended on a Tumblr feature that showed posts pre-filtered server side. This way, it would be fast and reliable. (For example, for videos, you could go to www.tumblr.com/show/videos - now it just shows a Not Found page.)
Filter By Type would then show the posts, and disable the standard Tumblr Infinity-Scroll and replace it with a custom one I’ve written to load the secondary pages so you could scroll down.
Looks like Tumblr removed that feature, for no reason. I’m not sure if it’s coming back, or it is removed for good, just like the Classic Theme Editor.
I’ll see what I can do to work around this, and make it work again, not dependent on this feature. This will probably require a complete rewrite of that extension. Thank you for your patience.
UPDATE: I’ve just sent a mail to Tumblr staff, asking if it was removed or if they are just having technical problems. If it was removed completely, I doubt I can make Filter By Type work as fast and reliable as it did before.
XKit 6 worked in a different way, and it would skip posts, show some posts twice, and would use so much CPU and would take hours to load a few posts, and I don’t want to go that way again. For Filter By Type’s survival, the server-side filtering should be there. I’ll keep you informed about this, and I apologize about it.
This will be my last post about the Follower Checker. I’ve written at least 5 posts about this, each can be classified as a short essay, describing the technical problems, the poll, and the legal complications.
I must say, there is nothing more discouraging than spending 4+ hours writing a brand-new extension, just to get replies and asks along the lines of “yeah okay let me know when you add the follower checker back, until then, I don’t give a f**ck about your extension.” (and believe me, I get more than a few of these.) - or someone giving XKit 7 a one-star rating because it does not have it.
The first item on the XKit FAQ is “Where is the Follower Checker”, which explains what happened. After answering at least 100 asks this week about the Follower Checker, I have to say from now on, I will not be answering any related to it. If you keep sending me asks about it, curse at me and make demands about this, as a last resort, I’ll be blocking your blog on my account.
For something completely free for you and is a hobby for me, I’m trying my best to please everyone: if you’ve ever sent a suggestion, you know that I try to reply to each and every one of them, and implement them as soon as possible, if it is possible. But everyone needs to draw a line between what is acceptable and possible, and what might potentially get you in trouble from time to time.
Thank you for your understanding, for reading and using XKit.
Well, actually, I’m still on a break, (today is day 4) and I think you’ve noticed that most of the problems you were having went away without me updating XKit, since I’ve stated before, they were related to Tumblr. The best way of knowing if something is related to XKit or Tumblr is to just temporarily disable XKit, and see if it continues. (well, that’s what I do at least)
Anyways, I’ve noticed a few small things that were related to XKit, so today’s update is a few small bug fixes. More bug fixes and features will be made available as soon as I, well, feel better.
Just a heads up that there won’t be any updates to XKit for a few days.
There are two reasons for that:
Again, most of the bug reports I’ve received were related to Tumblr changes, and there is nothing I can do about that. It’s their job to fix those, I have enough work on my hands. =/
I will be back in a few days. I apologize deeply in advance if something breaks while I’m gone, fixes will be provided as soon as possible. And again, I’m doing this so XKit would not die like the other extensions.
Thank you.
While fixing the tag problem of yesterday, as fast as I can, I’ve forgotten a line of code that, when absent, causes XInbox to publish asks more than once. They appear 2+ times on the dashboard, but once on your blog.
XInbox 1.4 REV C fixes this. Please update it manually to get it now.
I’m so sorry about this.
A recent Tumblr change broke a few extensions, most notably XInbox, One-Click Reply, Blacklist and Outbox. They are fixed now.
In addition to that, there are some weird problems that I (and others) noticed, such as Fan Mail not expanding, and blog controls (Follow/Dashboard/Reblog/etc) not showing up on people’s blogs. These are not related to XKit, since they continue even after uninstalling XKit. They will be fixed by Tumblr soon. There is nothing I can do about this, I apologize.
Also, if you hit any bugs I haven’t noticed yet, please let me know by sending me an ask so I can fix them tomorrow. Thank you!
I’ve also fixed the “reply” button on One-Click Reply and the “Show Anyway” button on Blacklist opening a new tab. If you are experiencing this, please wait for XKit to update itself, or update these extensions manually. Thank you!
If you are on Firefox and if you have upgraded to XKit 7.1.2 or above, under normal circumstances, the Reblog/Follow/etc buttons that appear on top-right of the blogs should be working.
I’ve just checked, and they are not. On some blogs, it even shows a “Not Found” error where the buttons should be.
This continues even after disabling XKit, so there is nothing I can do about this. It is not related to XKit, but a problem on Tumblr’s end, and I think they are working on fixing this. Again, I’m really sorry but there is nothing I can do about this.
Update: Looks like this is happening on people using Chrome and Safari too, getting the “Not Found” page also. Again, this is a Tumblr bug that I can not fix.
XInbox version 1.4 Rev A fixes the ask box not appearing due to a recent change. XKit will update itself in an hour or so, but if you don’t want to wait, you can update XInbox from the XKit Control Panel.
Thanks for using XKit!
A recent Tumblr change broke the Tagging feature of XInbox.
I’m working on it, and a fix will be provided as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience.
A new version of XKit for Firefox (7.1.3) that fixes Editor not opening and a few other bugs. You can update by simply re-installing XKit from the download page.
I’ve also added Framework Version Checking, which alerts you when there is a new version of XKit available. On Chrome, XKit updates itself automatically, but on Firefox and Safari, it can only update its extensions, and not itself, so it should be helpful for Firefox and Safari users.
When folks reblog a post a lot of times, sometimes I want to see what tags they put on it. But some themes don’t show tags, and it’s a lot of effort to open all the reblogs in new tabs to look. This extension fetches the tags on every reblog and shows them in a little popup window.
Interesting. =3 It would be great and added to the Extension Gallery if I could obtain a Tumblr API key, and not get it revoked a few days after. But for now, it does work with the Public Testing key, not sure how long that might last though.
XKit does not work on the beta version of Safari shipped with developer builds of OS X Maverick.
Since I do not have Maverick installed, and can’t pay a non-refundable $99 just to make XKit work with Safari 7 (unless you are willing to help me out with this), it will not work until Safari 7 is released to the public so I can see what is going on.
I’m so sorry about this, but as I’ve said before, I’m losing enough money with XKit/XIM servers as is, and 99 dollars isn’t exactly pocket money. Thank you for your understanding.
A recap of today, in case you’ve missed them:
Also, I feel like the post I’ve made a few weeks ago, titled “On Notifications and Asks” is very appropriate for today. I’m really sorry if I sound whiney with this, consider this a small editorial to remind that I’m only human. Thanks for using XKit.
Also, once again, if you are on Firefox 22, you need to re-install XKit from the download page for it to work again. Don’t uninstall or disable it, just click on the download link and it’ll update itself.
There is a bug that does not close the blocking window when you click “OK” (it does block people though), so a workaround is to click on the “OK” button, then “Cancel”, that should block people.
This is a Tumblr bug, it continues even after disabling XKit. I can do nothing about it, my apologies. I’m guessing Tumblr folk will fix it in a few days.

Also, I apologize for the small updates these days. I will try to cook up something nice and big this weekend. Thanks for using XKit.
