I’ve received over 20 fan mail in an hour with the title “Check This Out” followed by a TinyURL link. When clicked on the link, you get a “Tumblr” login page saying your session has expired.
Do not enter your login information, since it is a phishing attempt to gain access to your account.
Safari Update Message
Your asks and XKit Updates
Seems like Tumblr is having some problems with their servers: pages might take too long long or you might get a timeout error.
This, of course, affects XKit: some features of XKit, such as TagViewer or One-Click Postage might not work for a while. There is absolutely nothing I can do about this except let you know about it, sorry about that.

The XKit Guy
Since today’s update was the first in the last 6 days (and that I usually update XKit every single day), I feel bad and would like to clarify a few things, especially related to the Safari support and the asks you’ve sent.
1. Safari Support
As of today, XKit download page for Safari says it’s “unsupported” and provided “as-is”. There was always a warning message on the Safari download page, the new message is just a stronger worded version of that.
And yes, XKit on Safari is buggy, for reasons stated here, but that does not mean that I will not continue updating XKit for Safari. It just means that Chrome and Firefox will have a higher priority from now on (so, for example, when I release XKit 7.5, Safari users will get it a few days later.)
I still recommend switching to Chrome, but don’t worry, XKit for Safari isn’t “dead” and you can still use it.
2. Your Asks
I’ve spent quite a time today (~2.5-3 hours) replying to asks I’ve received since my break, but still could not reply to all (there are still around ~300 posts in my inbox.) Once again, I apologize if you haven’t received a reply, I will be replying to you as soon as possible.
3. Updates
I also apologize for the lack of updates lately, I’ve been very busy with work and school. I’ve tried to fix as many problems as I could today, but there are still a few known bugs (and a lot of features requested), mainly with XCloud and Post Archiver, which I will try to fix as soon as possible. I apologize for this and thank you for your patience.

Once again I apologize for the lack of updates and if you’ve sent me an ask and didn’t get a reply yet. I’ve received a lot of asks while I was on my break (and I am still on a semi-break actually) but I’ve been trying to reply to your asks. It might take a few days to get a reply. Thank you for your understanding.

I’ve been reading the bug reports I’ve received in the last 5 days, and I’ve realized that most of the bug reports come from people using Firefox or Safari. What makes this even worse is, according to the last survey, 77% of XKit users use Chrome.
As part of my policy on transparency, I’m writing this in order to let you know why that is happening and what might happen in the future.
(Read Mored, I apologize deeply if you are on mobile.)
Tweaks
Post Archiver and XKit Patches
I apologize for the lack of updates and answers to your asks. I was and will be gone for a few days since I’ve had a long week.
In the meanwhile, since there are already a lot of asks in my inbox, even though I love receiving them, I ask you to not send any suggestions since I believe bug reports should have a priority while I’m gone. Your asks will be answered as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
One-Click Postage (and possibly, more features of XKit) when using Firefox 30 (“Nightly”) is not working right now. It’s not XKit’s fault.
For example, If you’ve noticed, when clicking on the reblog button or trying to create a new post, Tumblr opens the now-ancient reblog page, and not the regular “light popup” version thats been in use for over a year and half now.
Upon closer inspection, I’ve discovered that Tumblr servers return a “Not Found” page when trying to use their /svc/ API (that XKit and Tumblr itself uses). This, combined with the re-appearance of the old page suggests that Tumblr servers does not recognize Firefox 30 so it treats it as a “very old browser”, denying access to the /svc/ API requests.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing I can do about this. I suggest using Chrome or downgrading to a non-nightly version of Firefox, at least until they fix this.
PS: Please do not use a user-agent switcher. They cause more problems than they fix because of various technical reasons.

I’m terribly sorry about releasing two versions in one day: I’ve released 7.4.1 in less than an hour after I became aware of the SSL problem, and apparently I forgot to update some parts of the code.
If you are running 7.4.1 and have SSL Security on, XKit will not work on the blog frames (the little buttons that appear on the top-right corner when you visit a blog), so extensions such as View on Dash will not work. XKit 7.4.2 fixes this bug.
And once again, in case you’ve missed, if you have the new “SSL Security” setting on on your account, and using 7.4.0 or below, you have to update your XKit or it won’t work at all on your account until you do. (The reason for this is explained here.)
If you don’t use SSL Security and don’t plan to turn it on, you don’t need to update your XKit yet.
This version adds support for the new SSL setting that Tumblr added and broke XKit earlier. It is available for Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I’m working on the Opera port.
On Chrome, you can wait for Chrome to update XKit or follow the instructions here.
On Firefox and Safari, just go and re-download XKit, then restart your browser. Your settings will be preserved.
You should also perform a XKit Control Panel > Other > Update All for XKit Main extension to update unless you don’t want to wait for XKit to update that extension.
If you don’t plan on using SSL setting, you don’t need to update, but it is recommended.
If your XKit went missing after enabling the new “SSL Security” setting from Tumblr, it’s because XKit disables itself automatically on pages served using SSL protocol.
The reason for it is pretty simple: before today’s update, the only Tumblr pages served using SSL was the login and settings pages, and both of those pages contain your e-mail and password, so it was a no-brainer to disable XKit on those pages to protect your privacy.
I’m working on a workaround that will let XKit work on SSL, but still protect your privacy, and an update will be made available as soon as possible. In the meanwhile, if you want to use XKit, unfortunately, you have to turn off that setting. I apologize about this.
PS: SSL does not exactly provide any additional security unless you use a public network such as the Wi-Fi at your local Starbucks or your workplace’s internet connection to use Tumblr. It will not protect you from viruses, it prevents people from snooping on the data your computer sends and receives on public places.
