April 2014

A few changes for the summer.

As you know, I’ve been really busy for the past couple of months, so I could not reply to all your asks, nor could add new features/extensions to XKit. Once again, I apologize deeply for that. In a couple of weeks, my workload will lighten, and hopefully I will be able to finish the surprise I’ve been working on, and get back to adding new features.

That being said, I would like to inform you about a few changes to XKit in the meanwhile:

1. XKit Changelog

Whenever I make a change on any extension, I post it on this blog. I know some people want to know which bugs were fixed, but most are simply not interested at all with small bugs fixes. For that reason, from now on, bug fixes will be posted to XKit Changelog blog, while new extensions/features and announcements will be posted here.

2. Safari Support

A couple of months ago, I’ve written about how hard it is to develop XKit for Safari. It lacks most HTML5 features, and it’s (incomplete) documentation is still not updated for Safari 7, a browser released nearly a year ago. Not to mention that the Windows users are still stuck at Safari 5, released almost 4 years ago.

Sorry to say this, but it looks like even Apple doesn’t care about Safari anymore, and due to fact that nearly 50-60% of the bug reports I receive are from Safari users, who make up less than 5% of the whole XKit user base, I am forced to discontinue XKit for Safari completely.

I am terribly sorry about this. I know it’s absurd to ask people to switch browsers to use an extension, but I’m left with no other choice. I hope you can understand. If you decide to switch to another browser, you can use XCloud to sync your settings and pick up where you left off.

3. Third Party Extensions

There are a few third party (not written by me) extensions on XKit Gallery, but unfortunately, most of them weren’t updated past their initial release, causing some problems. I will wait for their developers to update them, or I will re-write them myself in order to provide a more stable XKit for you.

Once again, I’m really sorry about the lack of updates for the last couple of months. I will be back with new features as soon as possible. Thank you for using, and supporting XKit.

XKit Update, April 28

Performance Updates

  • Today’s update is mainly to improve the performance and speed of XKit. Updated extensions are: XKit Patches, Limit People, Tweaks, Timestamps and Show Originals.

Tag Replacer

  • Improved replacing code, no longer stops replacing if one of the posts fail to update due to server problems.

You can wait for XKit to update itself, or you can update the extensions manually by going to XKit Control Panel > Other > Update All. It is recommended for Safari users to perform an Update All if your XKit is not receiving Automatic Updates.

XInbox, Outbox, Timestamps and XKit Patches updated

XInbox, Outbox, Timestamps and XKit Patches extensions are now updated to work properly with today’s (invisible) Tumblr changes.

To get the updates, you can wait for XKit to update itself or go to XKit Control Panel > Other > Update All panel. After the update, publishing asks, reblogging posts and timestamps should once again start working.

I’m currently investigating if any other extension is affected by today’s Tumblr update. If, after updating XKit, an extension still does not work, please send me an ask and I will update it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Inbox problems

There seems to be a problem with publishing asks when using XInbox, due to recent Tumblr changes. Unfortunately, I can not debug and fix the problem for at least another hour.

If you need to publish asks, you can disable XInbox from XKit Control Panel > XInbox and uncheck the “Enable XInbox” option until I can fix it.

I apologize for this and will be fixing it as soon as I get home. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

An apology from the XKit Guy

I’m really sorry about the lack of updates lately. New features and bug fixes will be made available as soon as I have some free time.

Also, due to an error on my part, I’ve lost asks sent to this blog more than 5 days ago (I accidentally cleaned the whole inbox instead of a side-blog) so if you’ve sent me an ask and did not receive a reply, I would appreciate it if you can send it back if the problem still continues, and I will be replying as soon as possible. I’m terribly sorry about this, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Tumblr Technical Problems, April 3

There seems to be a problem with Activity and Dashboard pages, with some pages not loading, notes disappearing and XKit double or even triple posting some posts. There are some reports of a “Bad Gateway” page appearing instead of pages requested. It doesn’t happen on all accounts, but it looks like Tumblr is having some technical difficulties.

Some features of XKit such as One-Click Postage and TagViewer will not function properly until these server-side problems is fixed.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about this, I apologize for that.
