XKit Update, July 17

I’ve just pushed updates to XKit Control Panel, Themes+ and Panorama extensions to make them compatible with the latest update.

This is where I would recommend you to go to the control panel to manually update them so you wouldn’t have to wait, but as you know, there isn’t a control panel to go to, yet.

But XKit should automatically update itself, although it might take an hour or two for that to happen. If you have your settings backed up on XCloud, you can go to the XKit reset page to force it to reinstall itself, but as that would delete your settings, it is not recommended.

If you have a problem that started after today’s change, but is not related to the XKit Control Panel, Themes+ or Panorama, please let me know.

Once again, I’m terribly sorry about this, especially about the delay.

XKit button gone?

I’ve been getting reports of the XKit button missing on both Firefox and Chrome. Some people report only the button missing but the features working, some people report it not working at all.

Unfortunately, I’m very far away from home / a computer so it might take 3-4 (or more) hours until I can check what is going on and provide a fix.

I’m terribly sorry about this, and thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: From the replies/asks I’ve received, I can confirm that this is because of a Tumblr change. Once again, it will take a few hours for me to fix this and I’m terribly sorry about that. Thank you so much for your patience.

XKit Update, July 16

I would like to apologize for the lack of updates again.

I’ve been working on version 1.0.3 of XKit Mobile, which should bring a much better experience for it’s users, with Hold-To-Reblog, Shorten Posts, revamped user interface (which should be less glitchy and feel less, well, rigid) and much faster GIF and page loading (up to 4-5x faster for GIF loading, and up to 25% faster for page loading) and lots and lots of small improvements and bug fixes. (iPad version is coming in 1.0.4, as it’s proving to be a little more difficult than I’ve predicted, my apologizes for that.)

After it’s released, I’ll be focusing once again on the desktop version, fixing the known bugs and bringing back Safari support. I am also experimenting with new features.

I also apologize for delays on answering your asks. The things is, in the last 3-4 months, the amount of asks I receive jumped from 15-20/day to more than 100/day (especially after Tumblr changes something), which is the reason why I can’t respond to asks like I’ve used to. I’m considering getting a few close friends to help me with the asks.

And as always, thank you so much for your support and patience.

Links not looking like links at all?

A recent Tumblr change removed the underlines from links completely, making it impossible to determine what is linkage or not.

Although I would write an extension that reverts this, this seems like a bug to me, so I’ll be waiting a few hours to see if it gets fixed first. If it does not, a new extension will be available shortly. Thank you for your patience.

Update: They are back.

XKit Mobile 1.0.2 is now available.

xkit-mobile:

Once again, I apologize for the bugs in the initial version, and I hope that this version will fix at least the most common problems reported to me.

  • Smart Safe Dash: Only block photos from known NSFW/Adult blogs, so you don’t have to tap on every single photo. As this requires the blog to be flagged as such, for maximum genitalia protection, please turn it off.
  • Improved Image Loading: Images should now load much faster than on version 1.0.1.
  • Lots of bug fixes and other small improvements.

I’m already working on version 1.0.3, and if everything goes as planned, it will feature Shorten Posts, Markdown support, blog settings (change avatar, turn the asks off/on) and more user interface improvements, and it will be released in less than 2 weeks.

If you are experiencing any problems, please let me know, and I will do my very best to help you. Thank you so much for your support and patience.

A thank you (and apology) from the XKit Guy

I just wanted to make a personal post to thank you for your support this week. I really can’t thank you enough. I will be honest, I wasn’t expecting such a warm reception on XKit Mobile.

As I’ve said, it being the very first version, there was a possibility that it would have bugs, and sure enough, with your bug reports, I’ve fixed around 13-15 reported bugs, and version 1.0.2 is on it’s way. It should also dramatically improve the image loading speed. Apart from bug fixes and speed improvements, it also has several small user interface improvements and features such as Smart Safe Dash, which only blocks images from known NSFW/Adult blogs.

I’ve submitted it to App Store, and I’m estimating that it will be available for download in 6-7 days (regular application review time).

I also apologize deeply for the bugs, and my slow reply time to your asks.

Thank you so much for your support and patience.

XKit Mobile: More Transparency

Missing Features and Known Bugs: I’ve added a list of missing features and known bugs to the transparency page. I know I should’ve done this a couple of hours ago, and I apologize deeply for that. I do realize that “it’s missing a few features I really wanted to add” was not very descriptive.

iPad Version: XKit runs on “scaled mode” on iPads, but I’ll be adding full-screen iPad support as soon as possible. And yes, it will be a “Universal” app, and not a separate purchase.

Android Version: As I’ve said, it’s on my to-do list, but I can’t give you any estimates or make any promises. I’m sorry about that.

Asks: Thank you so much for your asks. Unfortunately, I’m completely burned out today so I can’t be replying to all of them for now. But if you found a bug on XKit Mobile, please send the XKit Mobile blog an ask and I will reply as soon as I can.

Again, the app is still in it’s infancy, and this is very, very first release. I will be doing my best to make sure it performs perfectly, and I apologize in advance if you hit any of it’s rough edges. Thank you for your patience and support.

XKit Mobile for Android

Before you ask: yes, I am also planning an Android version. But it requires me to learn yet another programming language and re-write it from ground up, I can’t say anything about when it will be available, I’m sorry.

XKit 7.4.4 for Firefox

XKit 7.4.4 is now available for Firefox 29 and up. It brings compatibility with Firefox 31 and above, so if you are on version 30, please upgrade before Firefox 31 is released.

If you are on Firefox 28 or below, unfortunately, this version breaks XKit on your browser. In a nutshell, Firefox 31 brings changes that used to break XKit, so I had to rewrite parts of XKit to make it compatible with it, which in turn broke it on Firefox 29 and 30, prompting me to make more changes, which in turn, due to the way they changed things, made it incompatible with version 28 and below.

If you are on Firefox 28, you can still download XKit 7.4.3 from this link.

If you are on Firefox 29 or above, just re-download XKit and it will upgrade itself, preserving your settings.
