Sponsored posts update

Many of you sent me asks or reblogged today’s update post by saying that removing sponsored posts is a bad idea.

And yep, you are right. I would write “what was I thinking?”, but I wasn’t thinking to be honest. (I spent all night writing a paper, then took an exam, visited work for ~45 minutes, then came home and wrote that feature)

Websites need revenue in order to survive. I know this pretty well. If it weren’t for your donations, there wouldn’t be an XKit to use. It would be very hypocritical of me to ask for / accept donations while hindering one of Tumblr’s revenue paths just like that. My apologies.

So I’ve updated the extension to dim, not remove sponsored posts. Hover over them to see what they are about, or scroll pass them. Hey, it might be something interesting. =3

The option is only there if a sponsored post makes you uncomfortable, also. I would suggest you leaving it off to support Tumblr.

Thank you.

Update:

Moving the post buttons to the top of the post isn’t anything bad, but preventing ads are. If the sponsored posts don’t generate revenue for Tumblr, they will just add more invasive ads on your dashboard.

Or this website will end up like hundreds of websites shut down by Yahoo. I am trying to avoid that. I know for a fact that Tumblr is losing a lot of money each month.

In addition to that, there are also legal complications. My purpose on creating XKit is to enhance your dashboard experience, yes, but I can not risk getting my ass sued off because of this.
