Google Chrome: Corrupt Profile

If you are receiving error codes mentioning corrupt or missing files while installing or running XKit, it’s because your Chrome User Profile file is corrupt.

There are a few reasons why this might happen, such as:

  1. Performing a system restore
  2. Downgrading Chrome version
  3. Hard drive failure and/or viruses

Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about this. If your user profile is corrupt, XKit will not be able to store data such as its extensions, and will fail to load.

But you can fix this by following the instructions below:

  1. Back up Chrome data.
If you are signed in to your Google Account on your Chrome, you don’t need this. If you aren’t though, you need to export your bookmarks if you want to keep them.

  2. Create a new user.
Follow the steps provided here to create a new user on your Chrome. If you had a Google Account, sign in. This will open a new window with a different icon on top-right corner. Use this account and migrate your settings here and (optionally, recommended) delete the old user.

If the steps above do not fix the problem, you need to create a new user profile file, steps provided here.

Again, this is a problem related to Chrome’s corrupt files, and there is nothing else I can do but to provide these instructions.
