XKit Update, July 5

This is not a feature update, but a status update one.

First of all, I apologize deeply for the lack of updates this week. It was a pretty bad week, with Firefox and Safari 7 beta breaking XKit, friend problems, work and finally - just now - getting an e-mail from my web hosting provider (for XIM servers) saying my credit card was rejected.

On XIM, by the way, it’s servers costs around ~12x more than XKit servers cost, and from what I could gather, it’s used by only ~25% of all XKit users, and I’m not sure for how long I can pay for it. Yep, I get donations, sometimes small, sometimes huge (thank you to everyone who donates, small or big, by the way) but in the end, I always have to make it complete by the end of the month (or at least every 2 months), so not sure what I can do about it. I’m trying to make the server code more streamlined so I can downgrade the server to a smaller package or switch to a cheaper solution. (Update: by the way, I don’t want to deceive anyone, it’s not like XIM servers cost $5,000/month, but it is expensive for a college student who works part-time.)

And for XKit itself, I have around ~32 feature suggestions that I’m thinking about how to implement. Not sure how many of these can be actually implemented, while being stable, easy to use and fast. If you are curious, some of them are outbox for your messages, video downloader, and quick-reblogging from people’s blogs. Again, no promises at all if any of these can be implemented.

Again, I apologize deeply for the lack of updates this week. I will try to add some new features tomorrow morning. Right now though, I need a drink. Luckily, I have some vodka.

Thank you for reading, and using XKit.
