State of XKit, December 9

Here are some upcoming changes to XKit, disclosed since I like transparency. In a nutshell:

  1. I will be applying some rules to asks.
  2. There won’t be many updates to XKit in the upcoming weeks.

Reasons are listed after the read more to not clutter your dashboard. I apologize if you are on mobile.

Some Ask Rules

I’ve been measuring the time I spend on working on XKit and answering asks, and I can safely say that nowadays I spend more time answering questions, many of them already answered on FAQ.

This is terrible for everyone: between work and school, I barely have any time for XKit, so the more time I spend on answering asks (which are already answered), the less time I spend on working on bringing bug fixes and new features for all to enjoy.

If this trend continues, I will be spending all of my time just answering asks, so no new features will be available.

So from now on, I will be silently ignoring (sorry!) the following type of asks:

  1. Questions answered on FAQ.
  2. Bug reports with no browser name / XKit version (reasons explained here).
  3. Rude and/or demanding asks (ie: “How do I fucking uninstall this shit?”, an ask I’ve received the other day.)
  4. Questions related to XKit 6 or below, blog themes (not dashboard themes on XKit), pet maintenance and other non-XKit related asks/requests.

I’m really sorry if this comes out as rude or vain, I’m just doing this to better serve all the XKit users. All other kinds of asks will be answered as soon as possible.

Less updates in the next few weeks

There are some important changes I need to make to XKit in order for it to work correctly when Tumblr changes some stuff, and I’m working hard on those so you can continue to use XKit without any disruption. (Plus I have some exams I really should study on.)

This means while you will receive some updates, they will be mostly “invisible” (back-end) changes and will not include any new features.

This also means it will take longer to receive a reply to your asks, so I apologize in advance for that delay.

Thank you so much for reading and your understanding.
